Description

Verandah Cottage is a house, now functioning as a guest house, dating from around 1730, with alterations made in the late 18th century and mid to late 19th century. The building features a rendered and colourwashed timber frame with slate roofs. The south front faces the garden and consists of two storeys with four bays. A 20th-century conservatory has been added to the right. To the left of the centre, there is a four-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed. Flanking the door are two late 18th-century 6/6 sash windows, and a French window is located at the far right. The first floor is lit by four late 18th-century 3/6 sash windows. The roof is gabled and hipped to the west, with three gault brick stacks placed at irregular intervals. An extension built in the late 19th century is made of brick and has two storeys, featuring a full-height canted bay facing south fitted with 2/2 sashes and a hipped slate roof. There are two gault brick stacks on the east roof slope. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with round newel posts. An attached cottage to the east has been altered and is not included in this listing.
