Description

Compton House is a house located in Welford-on-Avon, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber-frame construction with rendered infill sitting on a rubble plinth, topped by a tile roof that includes a brick stack at the rear and an external end stack. The building has a two-unit plan with a single-unit addition on the left side.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range. To the left, there is a single-storey section with an attic and a two-window range. The entrance is on the left side and consists of a 20th-century plank door beneath an open gabled porch, next to a bay window that has a hipped roof and 1:3:1-light leaded glazing. The lower part features two windows with two-light 20th-century leaded casements, while the first floor has two windows with two-light leaded glazing, with the older window on the left and a 20th-century window on the right. There is also a gabled dormer on the left end with a two-light small-paned casement. The framing is square with bracing visible in the attic, and the roofs are gabled. The right side of the house has a large external stack with offsets, while the left side has a brick wall with a segmental-headed window where a former entrance was located, along with a similar window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a large timber-framed wing. The interior has not been inspected.
