Description
The Hollies is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond on a rubble plinth, topped with a tile roof that has a slate covering on the raised front pitch and features brick projecting end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window arrangement.
The exterior is highlighted by a top dentiled brick cornice. The entrance, located to the left of centre, features a gabled canopy over a six-fielded-panel door that has an eared plaster surround. A central canted bay window is topped with a hipped slate roof and contains 1:3:1-light leaded glazing with iron opening casements. The windows at each end and on the first floor have rubbed brick cambered arches above three-light leaded casements with iron opening casements, while the central first-floor window has a two-light casement. The second floor features small square windows with similar two-light casements. The roof is gabled.
On the left side, there is a 20th-century garage. The rear of the house includes some stonework at the ground floor and has two 19th-century single-storey gabled wings to the right of a tall stair window that has a transom and small-paned glazing. The interior has not been inspected.
