Description
Vine Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the early 20th century. The original structure is timber-frame with painted brick infill, set on a brick plinth, and has a steeply pitched thatched roof with brick end stacks. A later brick addition is topped with slate. The house presents a gable facing the street. It has a two-unit plan with a single-storey outshut.
The exterior is single-storey with an attic. It has a two-window front, with a 20th-century hipped and glazed porch flanked by canted bay windows. These bay windows have hipped tile roofs and contain 1:3:1-light leaded casement windows. A raking dormer also has a similar casement. To the right return, there is a large lean-to outshut with two large windows featuring small-paned glazing. An external brick stack is positioned off-centre to the left of the first-floor two-light small-paned horizontally sliding sash window. The rear of the house features a catslide outshut and a 20th-century summerhouse to the right; windows are varied, and include three raking dormers. A large external stack on the rear has offsets. The interior was not inspected.
