Description

The Maypole is a structure located on High Street in Welford-on-Avon. It dates from the 20th century but stands on an earlier platform of uncertain date. The maypole features stone rubble revetting walls with steps at three points leading to a circular platform that is approximately 13.5 meters in diameter. A painted maypole is set in an iron housing and topped with a running-fox weathervane. It is believed that this site has been used for a maypole continuously since the 14th century or earlier.
