Description

The Limes is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is of group value. The house is constructed of painted brick with timber-frame and painted brick infill, set on a rubble plinth; it has a steeply pitched thatched roof, with tile roofs to the ends, and projecting brick end stacks and a stack to the rear of the ridge. The plan is of three units, with a timber-framed section to the right, and single-unit extensions to the ends.

The exterior is single-storey plus attic with two-storey wings. The entrance is located to the left of centre, featuring a half-glazed door in a moulded frame and an enriched segmental iron canopy. Most windows have leaded glazing and, predominantly, 20th-century casements. A bay window to the left of the entrance has a hipped tile roof over a 1:3:1-light casement, with similar 3-light casements to the right, flanking a smaller leaded light. The first floor has two 20th-century gabled dormers with 3-light casements, and a smaller raking dormer to the right has a 2-light older casement. To the left is a single-window range with a segmental-headed window to the ground floor, featuring a 2-light casement; a smaller window to the first floor has an older 2-light casement with an iron opening casement. A single-window range to the right end has an entrance to the left of a wide garage door; applied timber-framing is visible to the first floor, where a window has a 3-light casement. The rear of the house features additions.

The interior was not inspected.
