Description
Four Gables is a house dating from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and some brickwork, topped by a steeply pitched tile roof that has a painted brick stack at each end and another on the ridge. The building has a three-unit plan with cross-wings, including two timber-framed bays and a single brick bay to the left, along with a 20th-century extension.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a five-window range. The central entrance is sheltered by a lean-to open porch and has a 20th-century door. On either side of the entrance are canted bay windows with cornices and flat roofs, which contain leaded glazing. The ends of the house have windows with three-light casements, while the first floor features three gabled half-dormers with weatherboarding above three-light casements. The end windows have two-light casements, and all windows have 20th-century leaded casements. The left side of the building includes a single-storey hipped projection. The interior has not been inspected.
