Description

Owl House is a house located in Shottery, Stratford-upon-Avon, dating from the 17th century with later alterations and an early 20th-century addition. The building is constructed of whitewashed brick, with some exposed timber-frame elements, and features a tile roof with brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan with a rear wing and is single storey with an attic.

The exterior includes a modillioned brick cornice and three segmental-headed windows with tile sills. The window to the left of centre, which was originally an entrance, has a two-light casement with leaded glazing, while there is a blocked entrance to the right of centre. The outer windows have similar three-light casements. There are two gabled dormers, each with two-light original leaded casements.

On the left side, there is a projecting stack with small lights and offsets, and a lean-to projection to the right. A round-headed entrance to the porch is located in the re-entrant angle between the front range and the wing, featuring a triangular lean-to roof, a tile arch, and a battened 20th-century door. The rear wing has casement windows, and the right side displays exposed timber-frame with cranked principals halved to the peak. The rear features a wing under an asymmetrical roof to the right of a bow window, which has a gabled dormer above.
