Description

Black Boy Cottages are semi-detached cottages that were formerly a public house, built in the mid to late 18th century. The front features imitation ashlar render, possibly over ironstone, and has a brick dentil cornice. The left side is constructed of Flemish bond brick with buff headers, while the right side and rear are made of squared coursed ironstone. The roof is covered with old tiles and is hipped on the left, with brick stacks at both the end and ridge. The building is in an L-plan, with a wing extending to the rear on the left.

The cottages are two storeys high, each with a two-window range. Number 1 has a central 20th-century half-glazed door, while Number 2 has a 20th-century door as well. Number 1 features three-light casements with glazing bars, and Number 2 has casements with horizontal glazing bars. There is a blocked window on the left side of Number 1 on the first floor, and all openings have segmental arches. The left return side of Number 2 also has a two-window range, with a blind central window on the first floor. The wall curves down on the left above a gateway, which has a brick segmental arch. At the rear, there is a hipped roof dormer with an old two-light casement that has many glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
