Description

Shuckburgh Hall Farmbuildings and Cottage is a range of farm buildings that includes a barn, stables, cart sheds, and a cottage, built around 1830. The structure is made of red brick and features a brick dentil cornice, with an old tile hipped roof and brick ridge stacks. It is arranged in an L-plan, with a wing on the left side facing the farmyard. The buildings are one and two storeys high, comprising nine bays.

The entrance side displays blind arcading, with three outer bays featuring round arches and a central round archway flanked by wider segmental arches. These arches enclose blind Diocletian windows with brick mullions. The second bay has a central light, while most other bays have pitch doors. A 20th-century casement window has been inserted between the second and third arches. The first two bays form the cottage, with the first bay containing a plank door and a casement window, and the second bay featuring two casements. All windows have glazing bars, and all openings are topped with brick segmental arches.

Facing the farmyard, the central archway is flanked by cartsheds, which now have plank doors and lower side segmental relieving arches with wood lintels. To the left and right are ranges with plank doors and 3-light wood mullioned and transomed windows. The cottage at the right end is two storeys high and originally had a two-window range. It features a 20th-century part-glazed door in a reduced doorway, with two-light casements, smaller on the right, and a central casement window from the 20th century.

The wing includes a three-bay barn that projects slightly to the left, with segmental arched doors in reduced openings, vents, and internal buttresses. It has a king-post roof. The right part of the wing has a plank door and two-light wood mullioned and transomed windows. A mid to late 19th-century canopy in the angle has a slate roof supported by a cast-iron column.
