Description

Stonewalls is a house that was originally three cottages, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone, with a timber-framed right return gable that has brick infill. The 20th-century tile roof features a coped gabled parapet on the left, along with stone stacks at the left end and ridge. The building has a three-unit plan and is two storeys high, with a four-window range. There is a part-glazed door from the 20th century in the second bay, a blocked doorway between the third and fourth bays, and a stable door on the right with a continuous lintel above an adjacent window. The windows are two-light casements, some made of wood and iron, with horizontal glazing bars and painted wood lintels.

Inside, there is an old board straight flight staircase and remnants of a stud partition. The room to the left features a run-out broad-chamfered ceiling beam, and the open fireplace has a chamfered bressumer with a stone shelf. The kitchen contains a bar stop-chamfered ceiling beam and an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered Tudor-arched bressumer. On the first floor, there are old plank doors and some stud partitions with lath and plaster infill. The room to the left has a small chamfered Tudor-arched stone fireplace.
