Description
Hatford Cottage is a house that was originally three cottages, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick quoins and jambs around the openings, topped with an old tile roof. The building features brick stacks and a central stone stack. The original layout is not clearly defined. It has one storey and an attic, with a seven-window range. The late 19th-century casements have timber lintels and brick jambs, with the second window from the right blocking a door. There is a 20th-century bay window and door to the left, along with a central 20th-century door and porch. The house has four late 19th-century half-dormers with late 19th-century casements. The gabled roof includes a gable end and two ridge stacks, with the stone stack set diagonally to the ridge. Inside, there are chamfered bressumers and segmental brick arches over open fireplaces that include bread ovens. The right room has a full set of chamfered and stopped beams, and it was originally two rooms with a morticed central beam.
