Description
The Elms is an 18th-century house located on Bow Road in Stanford-in-the-Vale. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, topped with an old tile roof and featuring a brick stack. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a four-window range.
The front features brick jambs and segmental arches, with a 20th-century door to the left and a late 19th-century horned sash window blocking the original door to the right, along with six-pane sash windows. The eaves are dentilled brick, and there are two gabled roof dormers with late 19th-century casements. The hipped roof has a ridge stack that runs along most of its length.
On the left wall, there is a segmental brick arch above a plank door with a barred grille leading to the cellar. At the rear, there are brick jambs and segmental arches leading to four 20th-century casements and a late 19th-century plank door on the ground floor, along with four 18th-century two-light casements on the first floor, one of which retains its leaded glass. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
