Description
A range of farm buildings located approximately 20 meters northeast of Blackford Mill, dating from the late 18th century and mid 19th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick and feature plain-tile and Welsh slate roofs. The layout is basically U-shaped, consisting of single-storey structures of various heights, with part of the complex containing a loft. The L-shaped stable on the left is connected to a cattle shed, which in turn is attached to a barn and additional cattle sheds.
The stable is a single storey with a loft, featuring three stable doors and a window on the front, along with a loft door above. There are also a stable door, window, and loft door on the right end. The stable has chamfered beams on the first floor, although the roof at the front is partly collapsed. The late 18th-century cattle shed has a nine-bay design, with brick front piers infilled with 20th-century breeze blocks, along with stable doors and windows.
The barn has a Welsh slate roof and is six bays wide. It features a central projecting gable with double doors that have a brick cambered lintel, a similar small opening to the left, and a door on the left end. There are also ventilation slits present. A midstreys with double doors and additional outbuildings are located at the rear. To the right of the barn, two cattle sheds project forward, with the front of one shed having replaced wooden piers and a wall between the structures that is partly collapsed.
Inside the stable, there is a queen-strut roof with clasped principals and a ridge piece. The cattle sheds contain a four-bay queen-strut roof with clasped principals and a ridge piece on the right shed, and a five-bay tie-beam truss roof on the left. Some feeding racks remain in part. This group of farm buildings forms a cohesive unit with Blackford Mill.
