Description
The Arden House School War Memorial is situated within the grounds of the former Warwickshire College campus, which was once Arden House School. This memorial features a stone step supporting a square plinth with a chamfered shaft rising from its top. Atop the shaft is a pyramidal block that originally held a sundial, although the gnomon is now missing.
Three sides of the plinth display bronze plaques set into recessed panels. The first plaque is dedicated to those who fell in the First World War, stating it was erected by parents, old boys, and friends of the school in memory of the Arden House boys who lost their lives in the Great War from 1914 to 1919. It includes the inscription, "THE LORD GAVE, AND THE LORD HATH TAKEN AWAY; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD." The second plaque lists the names of the fallen. A later plaque on the third side commemorates those Arden House boys who died in the Second World War from 1939 to 1945, listing nine names. The final side features a small bronze plaque shaped like a tree in leaf.
