Description
Blackford Mill, formerly known as Hobday's Mill and The Nether Mill, is a corn mill dating from around 1830 that has been converted into office space in 1986. The building is constructed of brick and features a plain-tile roof.
The south front of the mill is gable-ended and has three and a half storeys with three first-floor windows. There is an off-centre entrance with a plank door. On the west side, there is a three-light casement window, while the east side has a small casement window. Above the entrance, there is a loading door flanked by two three-light casements, with no windows above. The roof includes a single hipped dormer and a timber-framed and boarded lucarne. There is also a single-storey outbuilding to the west.
Inside, the mill retains corn milling machinery from around 1830, supported by framing made of cast-iron supplied by R Summers Millwright of Tanworth. On the first floor, three grinding wheels with hoppers are still present, along with exposed beams and rafters.
