Description

How Brook Furlong is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with a 19th-century rear wing and later 20th-century alterations. The house is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, with a slate roof featuring moulded coped gable parapets and stone end stacks. The building was originally designed with a central staircase plan, later extended to an L-shaped layout. It is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The central doorway has been partially blocked and replaced with a window. The original leaded, three-light mullioned and transomed windows, and central cross-windows, retain painted wooden lintels. A 18th-century six-panelled door and overlight are found in the right return side. A mid-to-late 20th-century open porch with a cut-out frieze has been added. The interior includes a straight flight staircase with turned balusters, although this is not in its original location. The house is included on the list for its group value.
