Description

Low House is a late 18th-century house, with a two-bay addition dating to the mid-19th century, located on the east side of Priors Marston Byfield Road. It was formerly known as Inglenook, as shown on Ordnance Survey maps. The house is constructed of coursed squared ironstone, with the addition built of brick. It has an artificial slate roof with coped gable parapets and kneelers; the addition has a slate roof. There are brick end stacks and a brick ridge stack. The house has a 3-unit plan, extended to 5 units, and is two storeys and an attic with a 5-window front. The entrance, located between the second and third bays, has a flush 6-panelled door, a hood supported on shaped brackets, and a C19 or C20 trellis panel. The ground floor windows are mullioned and transomed with leaded upper lights and painted wood lintels, arranged as 3, 4, and 3 lights. The first-floor windows also have mullions and transoms, arranged as 2, 3, and 2 lights. The central gable features a leaded 3-light semi-circular casement window. The addition has 3- and 2-light windows; a C20 window with glazing bars is on the right ground floor. A very small additional first-floor window is also present. The interior has not been inspected.
