Description
Herbert's Farmhouse, now divided into two dwellings, is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century, with restoration in the 19th century. It is constructed from squared, coursed ironstone, featuring quoins on the left and coped gables on kneelers. The roof is made of reconstituted stone and has stone end stacks with square flues connected by a moulded cornice, although the left stack has been replaced. The building has two storeys plus an attic and one storey plus an attic, with a four-window range and a double-depth plan.
In the centre right, there is a 19th-century plank door with a dressed stone surround. Immediately to the left of the door is a leaded light window. Both the door and window are topped with a continuous hood mould that has label stops. To the left on the ground floor, there is a renewed four-light stone mullioned window, and on the first floor, a renewed three-light mullioned window. In the centre and in the two gabled dormers to the right, there is a renewed two-light mullioned window. There are also two additional two-light mullioned windows in the gabled dormers to the left and centre. All windows feature leaded casements and hood moulds with label stops.
At the rear, extending from the right, is a 17th-century thatched one-storey range with two casement windows, one of which has a leaded light. Inside, there is an oak staircase with turned balusters arranged in three flights, and some beams are present in Herbert's Farmhouse.
