Description

Number 1, including stables to the rear, is a building that consists of two houses now combined into one. It dates from the 17th century and was re-fronted in the 19th century, with repairs made in the 20th century. The structure is built of brick laid in Flemish stretcher bond on a rubble plinth, while the rear wing is made of coursed rubble, partly plastered. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with old tiles, featuring a brick rebuilt end stack and a cross-axial stack. The building has an L-shaped plan.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range. To the left of the centre, there is a segmental-headed entrance with a plank door, and a round-headed entry passage is located at the right end. On the ground floor, there are three segmental-headed windows, two of which have 2-light small-paned casements, while one has small-paned glazing in what was a former entrance. The first floor features two windows with timber lintels above 2-light casements.

The left return displays a plastered gable on a brick and stone plinth, and the wing is partly plastered with a slight inward slant towards the right end, showcasing varied fenestration. The lower stable wing at the left end is constructed of stone, with a 19th-century brick first floor. The inner return has varied fenestration, and part of the stable wing is now incorporated into the house, made of limestone and ironstone, featuring segmental-headed stable doors. The interior has not been inspected.
