Description
Barn Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th century and was largely rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame with whitewashed brick infill, and much of the structure has been rebuilt in whitewashed brick. The roof is tiled, and there is a brick stack. The cottage has a two-unit plan and consists of one storey and an attic, with a two-window range. The left half of the front displays exposed framing. The entrance is located in a 20th-century single-storey rear addition. The windows include 19th and 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, and there is a three-light casement on the ground floor to the right, which has a cambered brick arch. Dormers are present, and there is an end stack to the right. The left corner and return side of the building feature clasping buttresses. Inside, there is a broad-chamfered ceiling beam. The 20th-century single-storey addition on the right has sham framing. The cottage is included for its group value.
