Description
Upton Manor is a manor house that dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with some close studding and lath and plaster infill, set on a high brick plinth, and includes some brick rebuilding. It has a tiled roof and a large central lias stack with diagonally-set brick shafts. The structure is L-shaped, with two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window range. The right wing has been rebuilt in brick but retains jowled corner posts. There is a staircase block at the angle with a gable featuring lattice framing, along with a 20th-century brick porch and a panelled door. The windows are late 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The right side facing the street shows exposed framing throughout and also has a three-window range. The left side, made of 19th-century brick, extends out on the ground floor and features a brick dentil cornice and a slate roof. The rear of the building is mostly 19th-century brick. Inside, the manor has exposed framing, stop-chamfered ceiling beams, two open fireplaces (one of which is largely blocked), and a queen post roof with curved wind braces.
