Description
Brailes Post Office and Old Post Cottage is a house that now serves as a post office and residence. It likely dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with later alterations and additions. The building is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched slate roof with brick end stacks. There are two entrances; the shop on the left has a late 19th century to early 20th century shop front with a partly-glazed panelled door. The entrance to Post Cottage on the right has a panelled door with two glazed panels, a moulded wood frame, and a hood supported by corbels. The first floor includes two tall 20th century casements with wood lintels and two gabled 20th century roof dormers. Inside the Post Office, there are moulded stop-chamfered beams and a large inglenook with a moulded stop-chamfered bressumer. The building is included for its group value.
