Description

This is a house, now a Post Office and with an attached cottage to the right. The main structure likely dates to the 17th century, and was probably raised in height and refronted during the 19th century. A reset datestone reads ‘c 1680. I M.’ It is constructed of coursed rubble sandstone with a pantile roof. The original layout comprised a two-cell direct entry plan. The front façade is two storeys high with two windows. The former Post Office section has a 20th-century glazed door and shop window, with a four-pane sash window above. The attached cottage to the right has a boarded door, a 12-pane sash window to its left, and a 20th-century fixed-light window above. A blocked fire-window is located between the ground floor windows, with a datestone positioned above it. Hammer-dressed stone lintels are present above all ground floor openings, with the exception of the shop window. The right gable has a coping with a kneeler. There was originally a single chimney stack to the right of centre.
