TA 09 SW BURNISTON HIGH STREET (eastside) 5/6 No 38 (Rose Cottage) -

House. Late C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed squared sandstone. Pantile roof. Brick stacks. 3-cell hearth-passage plan. 2-storey, 2-window high end, with single storey low end to left containing hearth passage entrance. Boarded door with glazed panel under gabled timber porch on lattice supports. Two 3-light horizontal sliding sashes to ground floor right, 2-light horizontal sliding sashes above, all with glazing bars. Small, later casement to left. Coped gables and kneelers to steeply-pitched roof. Brick end stacks to high end, later inserted brick stack to low end. Interior: the original plan is intact, retaining timber partitions. Low end kitchen has C19 oven and cooking fire with reckon in place. Harrison, B., and Hutton, B., Vernacular Buildings in North Yorkshire and Cleveland, 1984, p 624 and fig 337.
