Description
Rose Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and has a pantile roof with brick stacks. The building features a 3-cell hearth-passage plan and stands two storeys high with a two-window arrangement at the high end, while the low end to the left is single storey and contains the entrance to the hearth passage. The entrance has a boarded door with a glazed panel, set under a gabled timber porch supported by lattice. On the ground floor to the right, there are two 3-light horizontal sliding sash windows, and above them, two 2-light horizontal sliding sash windows, all featuring glazing bars. To the left, there is a small later casement window. The roof has coped gables and kneelers, and the steeply-pitched design includes brick end stacks at the high end and a later inserted brick stack at the low end. Inside, the original layout remains intact, with timber partitions preserved. The kitchen in the low end includes a 19th-century oven and cooking fire with a reckon still in place.
