Description
A row of 13 tall headstones is located along the south wall of the chancel of the Church of St. George in Lower Brailes. These headstones date from the late 17th century to the early 18th century and are made of ironstone. They feature bold carvings, although most inscriptions are mostly illegible. The decorations include winged cherub heads, scrolls, open pages of a book, strapwork, cartouches, and floral motifs. Notable dates on the headstones include April 18th, 1706, for Robert Gardiner on headstone number 7, 1660 on number 10, 1706 on number 11, 1794 on number 12, and 1733 on number 13.
