Description

Glen Cottage is probably a late 17th-century building, originally two cottages, and later converted into a single house. It has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble, with a steeply pitched thatched roof and brick end stacks. It is a single-storey building with an attic. The front has a two-window arrangement. The central entrance features a plank door within a wooden frame, covered by a thatched hood, with a continuous wooden lintel incorporating a casement window to the right. Another three-light casement window is to the left. Two 20th-century half-dormers are visible on the front. There is a blocked entrance on the left side, and a thatched brick extension to the left, traditionally used as a wheelwright's shop. A thatched extension from the 20th century is on the right. At the rear, there is a kitchen outshut built from brick and stone. The interior is said to have had a ladder and spiral staircase, which were replaced by 20th-century stairs in the past 20 years. Original stone flags remain, along with chamfered beams and joists. The interior features massive end stacks.
