Description
This building, known as 1649 Cottage, consists of three cottages that have been combined into one house. The datestone indicates it was built in 1649. The structure is made of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a 20th-century tile roof, with rendered ridge and end stacks. It is a single storey plus attic and has a four-window range with two entrances. The entrances have renewed plank doors topped with 20th-century thatched hoods. The ground floor includes two 2-light metal casements and one 3-light metal casement, while the first floor has four small casements. Most windows are fitted with wrought-iron casement fasteners and wood lintels. To the left, there is a single-storey kitchen extension.
Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered beams and joists, with some stonework to the inglenook fireplaces having been rebuilt or renewed. The floors are made of stone flags, and there is an interior stud partition with lath and plaster infill. An earlier ladder staircase to the attic has been replaced by a 20th-century staircase within the last 20 years.
