Description
This is a late 17th-century building originally comprising three cottages, now used as two separate dwellings. A datestone reading “R/TM 1699” is set into a moulded stone plaque. The construction is of regular coursed ironstone rubble, with a steeply pitched slate roof, renewed brick ridge, and lateral stacks. The building is single-storey with an attic.
Midway, the left-hand portion, has a partly-glazed plank door set within a moulded wooden frame and a 20th-century porch. Northview, to the right, has a 20th-century porch, a 20th-century casement window with a wooden lintel to its left, and a three-light casement window inserted into a stone opening. There is a hood mould and label stop over this window. A further 20th-century casement window is situated between the two entrances. The first floor has a two-light casement window inserted into a stone opening with wrought-iron springs, a three-light casement window with a wrought-iron spring and wooden lintel, and a 20th-century casement with a painted wooden lintel.
A two-storey, single-window part is attached to the right side; it is constructed of ironstone rubble with a slate roof and a coped gable to the left. This section was likely a stable, now used as a garage with a loft above. It features wide plank doors and a wooden lintel, and a plank door to the loft with a wooden lintel and frame.
The interior of Midway is said to retain original beams, joists, inglenooks, and stone flag floors.
