Description

The stable and coach house range at the former Weston House was built between 1826 and 1833 by Edward Blore for Sir George Philips. This structure features red brick in a Flemish garden wall bond with freestone dressings and Welsh slate roofs, although the roof of the east range has been replaced with plain tiles. The building is arranged around a rectangular courtyard and is designed in a Tudor style.

The exterior includes a two-storey east front with a configuration of 1:3:1:3:1 bays. It features a central gabled tower with octagonal turrets topped with tall pinnacles and stone finials. The carriageway has a 4-centred arch flanked by buttresses and an oriel above, with a roundel in the gable. The left and right sides have a moulded stone eaves cornice interrupted by three gabled ashlar oriels with spike finials. The gable ends of the north and south ranges project forward and include moulded stone kneelers and finials, with similar gables on the ends of the ranges. The single-storey north, south, and west ranges have stone mullion windows and gable ends with stone kneelers and finials. The courtyard-facing elevations feature stone mullion windows with iron frames, stable doorways with plank doors and overlights, and wide 4-centred arches, creating arcades on the west side. The east range has a plinth with chamfered stone weathering.

Inside, the stables are supported by cast-iron columns and have plastered jack-arches. There is a kitchen with a boiler next to the fireplace, a groom's room with a fireplace, and a queen-post roof structure.
