Description

Upper Spernall Farm features a barn and an attached building, located approximately 35 meters west of the farmhouse. The barn dates from the 17th or 18th century, while the attached building is from the 18th century or early 19th century. The barn is constructed with timber framing that includes square framing with tension braces and brick infill, topped with weatherboarding. The attached building is entirely weatherboarded. Both structures have 20th-century tile roofs and the barn consists of three bays. The front facing the road has one surviving plank door, while the rear has plank doors. Inside the barn, there are jowled posts, a low retaining wall with braces, and a queen strut roof. The attached building on the right also has three bays, with no openings to the road but features a plank door and a hayloft door at the rear. The interior retains the beam and joists of the upper floor, although the floorboards have been removed. This site is included for its group value.
