Description
The Old Barn is a barn that likely dates from the late 17th century. It features framed construction and is clad in weatherboarding, with the rear outshut wall rebuilt in brick and a peg-tile roof.
The barn faces north and is slightly set back from the road, located to the northwest of the farmhouse. It has a rectangular plan with five bays, including opposed threshing doors and rear outshuts.
The exterior is single storey, with a later loft added at the east end. The roof is half-hipped on the right end and gabled on the left end, featuring full-height paired doors in the centre.
Inside, the rear outshuts are separated from the main part of the barn by weatherboarded partitions. The wall-frame bays are supported by straight braces.
The roof structure consists of a tie beam and queen strut roof with staggered butt purlins. The tie beams are supported on jowled wall posts, with braces connecting the posts to the tie.
The Old Barn has group value with Lower Street farmhouse, which is owned separately.
