Description
This barn, located immediately west of Latters Farmhouse, is likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with a slightly later addition. It features a framed construction built on a brick plinth and is clad in weatherboarding, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof.
The barn is oriented on a north-south axis and consists of six bays of unequal size. The three southern bays are the earlier sections, which include a central threshing floor and a porch on the west side, flanked by outshuts. There is an opposed doorway on the east side. The three bays to the north also have opposed doorways in the center. Remnants of weatherboarding and nearby tie-beams suggest where the two sections of the barn meet.
The barn is single-storey with a half-hipped roof at both ends. The south end features a brick plinth made of handmade bricks laid in English bond.
At the north end, the barn has jowled wall posts, straight windbraces, and curved up-braces connecting the wall posts to the tie-beam. It has a clasped purlin roof construction with queen struts and a partial ridgeboard. The southern end lacks windbraces but has a similar roof construction, with the queen struts halved onto the ties.
