Description
This is a threshing barn and cow sheds located 20 meters west of Merriman's Hill Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with additional features from the 18th century. The structure is timber-framed with red brick nogging and has a plain-tile roof. The overall plan is U-shaped.
The exterior includes a three-bay barn with a single-bay extension on the right end, which has a lower range projecting forward, and a lower extension on the left end with another extension also projecting forward. The threshing barn features opposing central doorways, along with doorways at the far left and right. The framing consists of square panels with long braces.
Inside, the barn has jowled studs and a three-bay queen-strut roof with a ridge piece. There are tension braces on either side of the threshing floor and queen-post gable trusses. The 18th-century extension on the right includes a timber-framed cow shed, while a later brick extension is on the left, along with another timber-framed cow shed that projects forward. This building forms a group with Merriman's Hill Farmhouse.
