Description

Park Farm Barn is a threshing barn built in the late 17th century, with possible extensions from the late 18th century and an outshot added around 1800. The former cattle sheds attached at the northeast corner are not of special interest.

The barn is timber-framed, partially clad in weatherboarding, with some areas covered in corrugated iron sheeting and brickwork. It has a tiled roof. The structure consists of four bays, featuring a cart entrance in the penultimate bay on the north side and an outshot to the east of the two southern bays.

On the exterior, the east and north sides are clad in weatherboarding, while the south end and the northern part of the west wall are covered in corrugated iron sheeting. The southern part of the west wall has been rebuilt in brickwork with buttresses below the midrail. The roof is gabled to the south and half-hipped to the north. The southeastern outshot has a deep brick plinth in Flemish bond, with weatherboarding above. The cart entrances remain without doors, although a pintle hinge is still visible on the southern edge of the eastern entrance.

Inside, the wall frame features a midrail and diagonal braces at the corners and near the cart entrances. The upright posts lack jowls except for the four posts adjacent to the cart entrances. The roof structure includes an angled queenpost roof with clasped purlins and pegged rafters. The attached outshot comprises three bays with a tie beam and angled queen strut supporting the purlins.

The barn is shown with its current footprint on the first edition Ordnance Survey map from 1871. It is a pre-1700 threshing barn with later 18th-century additions, forming part of a farm group.
