Description

The Mill House is a corn mill and miller's house that has been converted into a residence. The original miller's house dates back to the 17th century, with a wing added to the right likely in the mid-18th century. The mill building on the left was constructed around 1867, with later additions and alterations, including extensions made in the 1960s. The structure features a timber-framed miller's house encased in reddish-brown brick, alongside a reddish-brown brick mill building set on a stone plinth, both topped with gabled plain-tile roofs.

The exterior showcases the original three-bay house, which is a single storey with an attic, and has a range added to the right, now extended on both sides. The mill consists of two storeys with a basement and attic. Jowled studs are visible on the rear of the original block, while the entrance is now located at the 20th-century addition. The windows throughout are 2- and 3-light casement types from the 20th century, featuring glazing bars, and there are ridge stacks present.

Inside the house, there are exposed small square panels of timber-framing on one wall, chamfered beams on the ground floor, and an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam. The upper floor also reveals further exposed timber-framing, wall plates, and purlins. The mill is connected via a 20th-century glazed passage, with a basement entrance accessed through a four-panel door. The mill features 2-light casement windows under elliptical arches, a hoist housing at the front, and an upper stage with a window. A mill wheel is located at the right end, with a plaque inscribed 'ERECTED FOR G F MUNTZ ESQ / BY / R SUMMERS TANWORTH / 1867', along with a bressumer beam and further exposed timber-framing, wall plates, and purlins on the upper floor. The mill's workings remain intact, with grinding stones marked 'R. SUMMERS'. This mill continued to operate until around 1940.
