Description

Danzey Green Farmhouse, located on Tanworth Lane in Danzey Green, is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring ashlar dressings and a gabled roof covered in plain tiles.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics in the gables and has three first-floor windows. It follows a central hallway plan with two ranges at the rear. The entrance features a central 20th-century plank door set in a moulded wood surround. The windows are wide metal casements with glazing bars, and some original panes of blown glass remain. These windows are set under flat arches made of rubbed brick with central keystones, which have been painted. There are decorative features including a three-course band at the first floor and a two-course eaves band, with raised eaves topped by moulded brick copings. The roof displays a distinctive diaper pattern of darker tiles and has end and rear stacks.

Inside, the farmhouse features a narrow open newel staircase with rod-on-vase balusters extending to the full height, and half balusters at the newel posts. The ground-floor room to the right includes fielded-panel shutters and doors, along with a 19th-century Neo-Classical fireplace that has been relocated from an upstairs room. Most doors are six-panel designs with fielded panels in the main rooms, while other doors are board doors. The ceilings have chamfered beams and the floors are made of wide floorboards. The room at the rear left retains the remains of an inglenook fireplace. On the first floor, there is a blocked panelled arch leading to the rear wing, and above the door to a small central room, there is a fanlight. The attic cheese room has a cement ceiling. The rear left range was originally used as a dairy with quarters for farmhands above.

The farmhouse is accompanied by attached walls on either side, which are L-shaped in plan and rise to first-floor height. There is a pedestrian plank door on the right side, and a window opening that has been bricked in, featuring a flat arch of dark red rubbed brick. The left side of the wall is concealed, and both walls have shaped copings that sweep downwards to the rear.
