Description

Poplars Farmhouse is a farmhouse located on Church Lane in Gaydon. It dates from the mid-17th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of squared lias stone with ironstone dressings and features alternating quoins. The roof, added in the mid to late 20th century, is hipped and tiled, with brick stacks on the center and right wing that have been rebuilt with cornices. The farmhouse has a U-shaped plan with wings extending to the front and is two stories tall with an attic, presenting a symmetrical facade with three windows.

The central entrance features a 19th-century fielded four-panel door topped with a panel in a chamfered wood surround. There are flanking windows, which include 19th-century chamfered wood mullioned and transomed three-light windows on the ground floor, as well as cross windows throughout. The wings have irregular stone surrounds and stone lintels with keyblocks. The center and right wing are topped with 20th-century hipped roof dormers. The return side of the building is irregular, and the rear has been rebuilt in 20th-century brick with late 20th-century casements.

Inside, the entrance hall features an ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beam. There is a moulded stone fireplace with a cambered bressumer, and fitted panelled cupboards and drawers that may date back to the 18th century.
