Description
The Leys is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, constructed from rendered and whitewashed stone and brick, with mostly whitewashed brick at the rear. It features a straw thatched roof with 1950s carved bargeboards and late 20th-century brick end stacks. The building has a lobby entry and a three-unit plan, standing two storeys high with an attic and a three-window range. The front has a wide plank door set under a segmental arch, and an open-fronted porch with a thatched hipped roof. To the left, there are mid-20th-century three-light casements, while to the right is a small cross-glazed single light. Above, there is a two-light similar casement, and old two-light leaded casements on the right. The ground floor windows are topped with segmental arches. The right side of the building has a three-light chamfered stone mullioned window with a hood mould. At the rear, there is a four-window range with two and three-light casements, some leaded and others with glazing bars, also featuring segmental arches and a 20th-century lean-to. Inside, the house has ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beams, an open fireplace with an ogee stop-chamfered bressumer in the left room, old three-plank doors, a straight flight and winder stairs, and some stud partitions.
