Description
This is a stable building, believed to date from 1689, and altered in the mid-18th century. It is located near Gaydon Manor Farmhouse on the north side of the Gaydon to Kineton Road. The stable is constructed of regular coursed lias stone, with a slightly raised brick base from the 19th or 20th century. It has ironstone quoins and dressings, and a tile roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic, comprising five bays. A wide central doorway is the focal point. The first and fourth bays originally had windows, which have now been altered into doorways. The stable retains plank half-doors, and some windows are partly blocked. The remaining openings feature partial glazing with alternating brick surrounds. A pitched wooden lintel has been inserted above the second bay. A stone cartouche depicting cornucopiae is positioned above the central bay and is said to bear the initials "MAS." A reconstructed gable has a 20th-century window. The interior of the stable has not been inspected. The building is listed for its group value, contributing to the significance of the surrounding farm complex.
