Description

Church Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone and features an old and 20th-century tiled roof, along with brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a four-window range. The entrance includes a part-glazed mid-20th-century door with an overlight and a hood. To the left, there is a 20th-century wood mullioned and transomed window, along with mid-20th-century steel casements, and lead latticed glazing throughout. The left return side has a 20th-century ground floor window, while the first floor features an old chamfered stone single light. The rear side facing the yard has stone mullioned windows with hood moulds. A low gabled projection on the left side has one storey and an attic with two-light windows. There is a large 19th-century brick outshut with a catslide roof and a plank door on the right return side. A 19th-century two-light roof dormer is present, and the roof on the right side cuts back to a two-light window. The main range includes a four-light window and a three-light window above it, which lacks a hood mould. A small 19th-century brick lean-to is located on the right. Inside, the farmhouse features broad-chamfered ceiling beams. The room on the left has a large inglenook fireplace with a broad-chamfered bressumer, stone seats, and a bread oven. Another ground floor room contains a blocked open fireplace. There are old plank doors and six-panelled doors throughout. The first floor room on the left has a chamfered four-centre arched stone fireplace.
