Description
This is a dovecote located approximately 21 meters east of Billesley Manor Hotel, dating from the 17th century, though it may have origins in the 15th century. It was restored in the 20th century by the National Trust. The structure is built from coursed blue lias rubble, with some parts rendered, and features a steeply pitched roof covered with renewed tiles.
On the exterior, the north end has a low entrance with a timber lintel above the gate and a blocked opening above that. The west elevation has a projecting course, while the south end features a ledge below the peak of the gable. The east elevation shows remnants of plastering and a small hole. The roof includes two rebuilt gabled louvres.
Inside, the walls are lined with stone nesting boxes, which are recorded to have housed 700 boxes. The interior also features one tie beam and a collar truss with struts.
