Description
The gate pier, located approximately 20 meters south of Verney Drive, dates from the late 17th century and was part of the former entrance to Clopton Park. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a coursed limestone rubble base. The pier features rebated angles, an entablature, and a ball finial on top. The inner face facing west includes a niche with an impost band and a shell vault, while the north face has a tall round-headed recess. Although it originally marked the entrance to Clopton Park, the pier is now surrounded by a late 20th-century housing estate.
