Description

The gate pier, located approximately 20 meters south of Verney Drive, dates from the late 17th century and was part of the former entrance to Clopton Park. It is constructed of ashlar stone set on a coursed limestone base. The pier features rebated angles, an entablature, and a ball finial. The inner face to the east includes a niche with an impost band and a shell vault, while the north face has a tall round-headed recess. Although it originally marked the entrance to Clopton Park, the pier is now surrounded by a housing estate built in the late 20th century.
