Description
19 and 20 Shakespeare Street are a pair of houses, likely built in the late 1830s. They are constructed of brick with buff headers and have stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof and brick end stacks. Designed in a Georgian style, the houses are two storeys tall and feature a symmetrical three-window range with plain eaves. The central entry has a round-headed shape with a blind fanlight and a plank door. The entrances on either side have moulded doorcases with decorative paterae and six-fielded-panel doors, with the door to No. 19 featuring a glazed top panel. The windows have sills, with those on the ground floor displaying rusticated wedge lintels and keys, above 12-pane sash windows. These houses are part of the early 19th-century development of the northern area of Stratford, known as New Town.
