Description
The pair of houses at 58 and 59 Shakespeare Street were built between 1863 and 1864 by William Holtom. They are part of the early 19th-century development of the north side of Stratford, known as the New Town. The houses are constructed of brick with buff headers, stucco dressings, and a slate roof with brick stop-chamfered end stacks. They are designed in a Georgian style, presenting a symmetrical 3-window facade. A top cornice runs along the building. The main entrance has a segmented head, with a 20th-century door. Flanking entrances have friezes and consoled cornices over 20th-century doors. The windows have sills, wedge lintels, and keys over 4-pane sashes, with margin lights to the central first-floor window. Information regarding the building is held within the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Record Office.
