Includes: No.60 SHAKESPEARE STREET. Public house. c1835. Painted brick with stucco dressings; slate roof with brick end stacks. Georgian style. 3 storeys; symmetrical 2-window range. Top modillioned brick cornice. Entrance has doorcase with panelled pilasters and entablature, and C20 half-glazed door. 2-storey canted bay windows with cornices over 4:12:4-pane horned sashes; 2nd floor has windows with sills, and rusticated wedge lintels with keys over 6-pane sashes. Rear has 2-storey lean-to outshut with bay window to right return; gabled wing to Shakespeare Street has some exposed brick with buff headers; 2 entrances, one to No.60, and varied windows with segmental heads or rusticated wedge lintels to sashes; 12-pane sashes to 1st floor. Part of the early C19 development of the north part of Stratford, known as New Town. (Bearman R: Stratford-upon-Avon: A History of its Streets and Buildings: Nelson: 1988-: 34).
