Description
A pair of town houses built in 1839 as part of the early 19th-century development of Stratford-upon-Avon, known as New Town. The houses are constructed of brick with buff brick headers and stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof and brick end stacks and a cross-axial stack. They are arranged over three storeys with a symmetrical 6-window front, creating two double-fronted houses. A plain eaves soffit runs along the top. The entrances are defined by Tuscan porches with slender columns, sheltering 3-fielded-panel doors with margin lights above. Windows have sills and rusticated wedge lintels with keys above 12-pane sashes, with 6-pane sashes on the second floor. A 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped lead roof and plate glass, horned sashes is present on the ground floor to the right end. The side returns feature sashed windows; the left return has an attached 20th-century garage. The land for these houses was sold by the trustees of Tyler’s Charity around 1840.
