Description
Edgar's Cottage and No. 2 is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of squared, coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a coped gable. The roof is covered with 20th-century tiles and has a brick lateral stack and a brick end stack on a stone base. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, following a three-unit plan.
At the center, there are a pair of 19th-century plank doors with plain overlights and concrete lintels. To the left, there is a brick canted bay. On the first floor, to the center left, is a four-light double-chamfered mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops. The building also features two 20th-century skylights. To the left of the building, there is a door with a wood lintel in a lean-to brick range. The rear includes a double-chamfered stone single-light window and a stone and brick two-storey gabled range.
The right gable end has a four-light double-chamfered mullioned window with a king mullion on both the ground and first floors, along with a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window in the gable. All windows are adorned with hood moulds and label stops. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams, a small-frame timber and plaster partition, and additional chamfered spine beams on the first floor. The timber and plaster partition extends into the attic, where some pegs are visible, and it retains its original wood doorway with a sill. Original purlins can also be seen. No. 2 is said to have an original open fireplace.
