Description
Linwood is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of squared, coursed limestone rubble and features coped gables. The roof is made of stone slate and tile, with brick end stacks set on stone bases. The house has two storeys plus an attic and a two-window range, following a two-unit plan.
At the center, there is a six-panelled door with a chamfered wood lintel and a hood supported by moulded consoles. To the right of the door, there is a large 20th-century window with a wood lintel in its original opening. Above the door, there is a 24-pane cross casement window from the 18th century. The rear windows are from the 20th century but are said to occupy original openings, also featuring wood lintels. Additionally, there is a brick kitchen range at the rear, topped with a stone slate roof and an ashlar ridge stack.
Inside, the house contains two Adam-style fireplaces, one of which has a 'waisted lady' grate. There is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer that has an ogee stop. The interior also features one chamfered spine beam with run-out stops, an oak dog-leg stick-baluster staircase, an 18th-century two-panelled cellar door, and some stone flagged floors.
